The Scotts Valley Police Department D.A.R.E. program's primary mission is to

provide children with the information and skills they need to live drug and

violence-free lives. Through D.A.R.E. we establish positive relationships between

students and law enforcement, teachers, parents, and other community leaders.

D.A.R.E.'s innovative and highly effective curriculum was developed by Los Angeles Unified School District health education specialists. Our D.A.R.E. officers receive 80 hours of special training to be equipped with all the tools they need to teach a course in drug resistance and violence avoidance techniques.

D.A.R.E. lessons focus on providing accurate information about alcohol and drugs, teaching students decision-making skills, and showing them how to resist peer pressure. Our D.A.R.E. officers give students ideas for alternatives to drug use and violence.

Originally designed for elementary school students, D.A.R.E. has been expanded to reach middle and high school students as well. D.A.R.E. officers from Scotts Valley Police Department currently teach at Baymonte Christian School, Vine Hill School, Brook Knoll School, Scotts Valley Middle School, and Scotts Valley High School.

Our curriculum is open for review to any member of the community. For more information please contact the Scotts Valley Police Department Juvenile Division at (831) 440-5656, or visit the D.A.R.E. website.

We welcome parent support and each year invite you to observe the upcoming grade level.  The goal of classroom observations is to give you a sense about what the program looks like.  We’ve chosen to have the observation days in May so that parents can see what happens on a regular basis, before the end of the school year.

Please follow these guidelines when visiting classroom:

  1. Sign in at the office. I will meet with everyone before going over to the classrooms.

  2. Plan to spend no more than 10 minutes in each classroom.  This should give you a feel for the curriculum and class culture.

  3. Do not engage the students or teacher, or other adults, in conversation.

We expect to have similar class sizes and may have some combination classrooms. Some teachers will be changing grade levels and we may also have some new staff members.

We do not accept requests for specific teachers.  However we value your input regarding classroom environment.

Please do not bring siblings.

Thank you for your participation and cooperation.

SVEF Touch a Truck EVENT

Girl Scouts Take Action!

Each year, Girl Scouts of all levels come together to earn a Global Action Award.  This award promotes a sisterhood among Girl Scouts by helping girls work together to make a difference on a topic that affects girls all over the world. This years theme is "Increasing Girls' Access to Education."  The Girl Scouts discussed challenges girls face all over the world making it hard for girls to go to school and to finish their education. Topics included how distance, poverty, culture, violence at school, and cost all negatively impact their access to education.

To raise awareness and show appreciation for their school, on Wednesday, 29 March, the Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Girl Scouts Troops of Vine Hill Elementary School came together to to conduct a special project. When asked what project does Vine Hill need, Principal Ebert asked if the Girl Scouts could conduct a campus wide clean-up.

Eager to support the school, Girl Scouts from kindergarten to 5th grade conducted a grounds clean-up from outer edges of the school parking lot through to the playground and up in the bushes and tree by the Life Lab. Working together, the Girl Scouts collected enough trash to completely fill a large trash bin!  Their efforts are a part of a global effort which includes 10 million girls in 146 countries working together to make the world a better place.

Thank you Junior Troops 10208 & 10232, Brownie Troop 10232, and Daisy Troop 10249!
